Close Board Fencing Replacement in Torbay

Outdoor Home Improvements were glad to be able to help an existing customer in Torbay who needed a boundary fencing replaced urgently.

What Did The Fencing Project Involve?

The property sits on an elevated coastal site with the wonderful subtropical planting Torbay is known for. Mature palms, cordylines, tree ferns and agave are packed in around the garden. The existing boundary fence, however, had reached the end of its life. Years of heavy ivy growth had pulled it out of line, the timber had rotted through and sections had collapsed altogether, leaving the boundary open and the planting behind it exposed.

The site itself was the real challenge. The boundary runs along a slope and passes very close to the wall of the property, so the new fence had to be set out to follow the changing ground levels without leaving gaps along the bottom, and it had to be built in a confined space surrounded by planting the customer wanted protected.

How Did Outdoor Home Improvements Help?

Our team turned the job around quickly from start to finish, which included:

  • Clearing the collapsed fence and the mass of ivy and dead growth that had built up along the boundary, and removing it all from site
  • Taking out the old rotten posts and preparing the line ready for the new fence
  • Setting new posts securely along the sloping boundary, stepping the runs to follow the fall of the ground
  • Installing new pressure treated close board fencing, built with vertical feather edge boards for a strong, solid and private finish
  • Taking the fence right up to the wall of the property to close the boundary off completely
  • Working carefully around the customer’s mature palms, tree ferns and established planting throughout

The new fence has made an enormous difference. The boundary is secure and private again, the planting has room to breathe now the ivy has gone, and the clean lines of the new close board fencing sit far better against the subtropical garden than the failing fence ever did. The customer was delighted that we were able to respond at such short notice.

Fencing in Torbay, Torquay and Across Devon

Close board fencing is one of the most durable options available for a domestic boundary. Built board by board rather than in prefabricated panels, it can be stepped and scribed to follow sloping or uneven ground, and it stands up far better to coastal wind than lighter lap panel fencing. If you would like something with an even longer life and no maintenance at all, we also install composite fencing. Our guides to choosing between a hedge or a fence and coastal garden ideas are well worth a read if you are planning work on an exposed seaside garden.

We install fencing and carry out landscaping across Devon, including Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and Totnes, and we will always do what we can to help existing customers at short notice. Get in touch or call 01626 323525 for a free, no obligation quote.
