Outdoor Home Improvements were pleased to take on this project for a customer in Sidmouth, East Devon, who wanted to replace the tired concrete driveway and pathways around their bungalow with a smooth, permeable resin bound finish. The existing concrete had cracked and lifted over many years, weeds had taken hold in the joints, and the surface had become both unsightly and an increasing trip hazard around the property.

What Did The Resin Driveway Project Involve?

The customer wanted a full replacement rather than a repair. The aim was a single, smooth, easy to maintain surface covering the sweeping driveway at the front of the property and the pathways that run around both sides of the bungalow. The brick gate piers and the mature hedging and lawns that frame the property were all staying, so the new surfacing had to be worked in neatly around them.

Levels were a key consideration on this one. The driveway rises gently from the road up towards the garage, and the pathways run tight along the walls of the bungalow, so falls had to be set carefully to move water away from the building rather than towards it.

How Did Outdoor Home Improvements Help?

Our team managed the entire project from start to finish, which included:

  • Breaking out and removing the full area of failed concrete driveway and pathways with a mini excavator, and clearing all arisings from site
  • Completing all groundwork and excavation, including digging out and preparing the narrow pathway runs along both sides of the property
  • Laying and compacting a permeable tarmac sub-base across the driveway and pathways to give a solid, free-draining foundation
  • Installing charcoal block paving edging throughout to define the driveway and pathway boundaries against the lawns and borders
  • Rebuilding the entrance step in brick with a charcoal coping to match the new edging detail
  • Laying a light silver grey resin bound surface across the driveway and continuing the same finish through the pathways and up to the step, for a seamless run around the whole property

The finished result has completely lifted the front of the bungalow. The cool silver grey aggregate works beautifully with the cream render and red brick of the property, and the charcoal edging gives the whole scheme a sharp, deliberate outline. The customer now has a level, weed free surface that can be walked all the way around the house.

Resin Bound Driveways and Pathways in Sidmouth and East Devon

Replacing old concrete with a resin bound driveway is one of the most effective ways to transform the front of a property. The surface is fully permeable so it meets SuDS requirements without additional drainage, it is smooth and level underfoot, and there are no joints or gaps for weeds to grow through. Our aggregate colour range runs from warm golds through to cool greys and silvers, so the finish can be chosen to suit the property. If you are weighing up your options, our guides to the benefits of resin pathways and how long a resin driveway lasts are a useful place to start.

We install resin bound driveways, patios and pathways across Sidmouth, Exmouth, Dawlish, Exeter and throughout Devon. Contact us or call 01626 323525 for a free, no obligation quote.
