Decking is an attractive and practical alternative to paved patios, muddy or tired-looking grassy areas. Available in softwood, hardwood, composite deck boards, including the premium Millboard range. We install throughout Devon, including decking in Exeter and Newton Abbot.
Our designs can incorporate anti-slip material for safety and durability, as well as a variety of balustrades, posts rails, steps, disabled access, lighting and many more accessories and finishes to complement your chosen style.
We install decking across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset & Dorset. Softwood, Hardwood, Composite & Millboard decking are available, with guarantees.
Our decking installation timeframes vary based on size and complexity.
A standard residential deck (15-25 square metres) typically takes 3-7 working days from start to completion. Larger projects or those with complex designs, challenging access, or extensive groundwork may require 1-3 weeks. Commercial installations often take longer depending on scale and site conditions.
Weather conditions in the Southwest can occasionally impact timelines, particularly during winter months. During your consultation, we’ll provide a realistic timeframe specific to your project and the type of decking. We pride ourselves on completing work on schedule with minimal disruption to your property.
Our decking design process begins with a complimentary on-site consultation where we discuss your vision, assess your space, and take measurements.
We’ll explore how you want to use the deck, consider sun positions, views, access points, and privacy needs. Once you’re completely satisfied with the design, we finalise material selections, provide a comprehensive quote, and schedule installation. Our designers work closely with our installation team to ensure every detail of your approved design is executed perfectly.
Most standard decking projects in the Southwest don’t require planning permission if they’re under 30cm in height and don’t cover more than 50% of your garden area.
However, permissions may be needed if: your property is in a conservation area or AONB; the deck is over 30cm high; it’s within 20 metres of a highway; you’re in a listed building; or the deck platform is near a boundary. Building regulations may apply for elevated decks requiring structural support.
During our initial consultation, we’ll assess your specific situation and advise on any permissions needed. If required, we can handle the entire planning application process on your behalf for a hassle-free experience.
We specialise in overcoming access and terrain challenges common throughout Devon, Somerset, and Cornwall. For difficult access sites, we use specialised equipment including mini-diggers, conveyor systems, and manual transportation methods. Our experienced team can work with narrow pathways, limited access points, and tight spaces.
For sloped gardens, we create terraced decking designs, implement split-level solutions, or construct elevated platforms with appropriate structural support. We may incorporate retaining walls, ground anchoring systems, or specialised foundations depending on slope severity.
During our site assessment, we’ll identify access and terrain challenges and develop specific strategies to ensure efficient installation without compromising quality or design integrity.
Yes, we frequently convert existing patios, concrete slabs, and other hard surfaces to beautiful decking throughout Devon, Somerset, and Cornwall. This conversion process typically involves: assessing the existing surface for stability and drainage; installing a suitable subframe directly onto solid surfaces (using appropriate fixings or pedestal systems); incorporating ventilation solutions to prevent moisture buildup; and integrating with surrounding landscape features.
Converting to decking offers several advantages: it’s often quicker than full removal and replacement; it can raise outdoor living spaces to improve accessibility with indoor areas; and it can transform dated patios into contemporary outdoor spaces.
Each conversion project is approached individually to address site-specific challenges and opportunities.
Yes, we specialise in creating custom deck designs that incorporate existing landscape features.
For trees, we implement techniques including: creating attractive tree wells with appropriate spacing for growth; installing flexible joists to accommodate root systems; using adjustable pedestal systems to minimise ground impact; and designing removable deck sections for future maintenance. For hot tubs, we engineer reinforced substructures to support the substantial weight, create access hatches for maintenance, incorporate proper ventilation and drainage, and ensure appropriate electrical integration. Other features like outdoor kitchens, fire pits, water features, and garden structures can all be seamlessly incorporated. These custom solutions often become striking design features that make your deck uniquely yours.
