Outdoor Home Improvements were honoured to be involved in this special community project at South Petherton Hospital in Somerset. The project involved the creation of a new resin bound pathway within the hospital grounds, designed to provide patients, visitors and staff with a safe, accessible and attractive walking route through the gardens.

What Did The Pathway Project Involve?

The pathway, known as “Sharon’s Path”, was created as a meaningful addition to the hospital grounds, providing a dedicated walking route through the beautiful Somerset countryside that surrounds the site. The project required a surface that would be smooth and accessible for all users, including wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, while also being durable enough to withstand heavy foot traffic throughout the year.

The route winds through the hospital gardens with gentle curves, bordered by low stone walling, hedgerows and open green spaces with far-reaching views across the Somerset countryside. A bespoke decorative iron gateway was also installed at the entrance, adding a personal and welcoming touch to the space.

How Did Outdoor Home Improvements Help?

Our team was proud to deliver this project to the highest standard, which included:

  • Completing all groundwork and base preparation along the full pathway route
  • Installing a warm, terracotta-toned resin bound surface to create a smooth, even walking path
  • Building neat block paving edging along both sides of the pathway for a clean, defined finish
  • Ensuring the surface is fully accessible, slip-resistant and suitable for wheelchair use
  • Working sensitively within the hospital environment to minimise disruption to patients and staff

The finished pathway was officially opened in a ceremony attended by hospital staff, patients and members of the local community. It has become a well-loved feature of the hospital grounds, offering a peaceful and accessible space for everyone to enjoy.
